Ingredients

  • 3 large apples (red, green, yellow)
  • 6 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 2 large vegan marshmallows (see notes for substitutions)
  • Optional decorations: vegan candy eyes

Instructions

  • Slice the apples: Core the apples and cut them into thick wedges (about ½-inch wide). Each wedge will become a monster mouth.
    3 large apples
  • Add the “filling”: Spread around 1 teaspoon of peanut butter on one side of each apple wedge.
    6 tablespoons peanut butter
  • Add the “teeth”: Press mini marshmallows or almond slices along the peanut butter edge to form the monster’s teeth. Make them slightly uneven for a fun, spooky effect!
    2 large vegan marshmallows
  • Assemble the mouths: Place another apple wedge on top of the peanut butter side to form a mouth sandwich.
  • Decorate the eyes: Use raisins, chocolate chips, or edible googly eyes on top of the apple wedges to give your monsters a silly or scary expression. You can even use a dab of peanut butter to stick the eyes on.
    Optional decorations: vegan candy eyes
  • Serve and enjoy: Arrange your Apple Monster Mouths on a plate and watch them disappear—these spooky snacks are perfect for Halloween parties or a fun school treat.
  • Storage Instructions
  • These are best eaten fresh, but you can store assembled monsters in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 hours. If prepping longer in advance, keep apple slices separate and assemble just before serving.

Tips & Tricks

  • For extra flair, use different colored apples for a more “monstrous” variety.
  • Use almond slivers, pumpkin seeds, or sunflower seeds in place of marshmallows for teeth.
  • Sunflower seed butter works for nut-free versions.
  • You can drizzle a little chocolate or caramel for extra sweetness if desired.
